Calgary CP Christmas Train
We decided to take the kids to the CP Christmas train in Calgary on Saturday, despite the freezing cold weather, -28, brrrr! They had a huge festival with Santa Clause and Mrs Clause, ice sculptures, hot chocolate, crafts for the kids to do... all sorts of stuff. The main attraction, other than the Christmas Train of course, was a concert with Sarah McLachlan, the Tenors, and Doc Walker. (I LOVE Sarah McLachlan!) Syler was such a good sport, got all bundled up with his balaclava and soaked the whole thing up. Laiken on the other hand hated it! I think he despises the cold!!! It doesn't help that he refuses to wear mittens. He is going through this stage where he carries little toys around with him everywhere! I mean EVERYWHERE, he sleeps with them, baths with them, eats with them... they do NOT leave his hands. Unfortunately with his little mittens on he couldn't hold onto his big duck, so he freaked out when we put them mittens on, I mean FREAKED out!!! So we left him without mittens but then his poor little hands got so cold he freaked about that, not that I blame him... I did mention it was -28 right? So the whole night was a battle of whether to wear the mittens or hold the toys. Eventually I got so worried about his hands getting frost bite that I made him wear his mittens but that just made him cry so much that his face was soaking from all the tears and snot. There is just no winning with that kid. Once Doc Walker started to sign we kept entertained for a little while dancing, but eventually Dahlin just had to take Laiken back to the truck while Sy and I waited for the train. Once Laiken was gone Sy and I just danced up a storm and waited for that Christmas train. But even Syler was freezing by the time the train came, we literally watched it pull in and then ran back to the truck as fast as Sylers little frozen 5 year old legs would take him. And ironically Dahlin and Laiken had way better seats of the train pulling in from the warmth of the truck then we did. Oh well, it was still fun! The only downside was that we were all so cold we didnt even stay long enough to hear Sarah McLachlan.
